Music technology makes off-Broadway debut - Innovative NOTION™ software provides score and musical accompaniment for Cambodia Agonistes
October 13, 2005 |
The West End Theatre's October 29 debut of Cambodia Agonistes will be the first off-Broadway production to use NOTION™ music software. Not only was this powerful software used to arrange and orchestrate the original score, but the software's creator, Jack Jarrett, PhD., will conduct the production's first performance using NOTION.
Jarrett, a distinguished conductor and educator, worked closely with skilled composers Louis Stewart and Kevin Kaska to arrange Stewart's original score for Cambodia Agonistes utilizing the powerful notation and orchestration features of NOTION.
"VirtuosoWorks is a musician's company and our goal is to create more original music and, with the upcoming productions, enhance the musical experience in live theater," says Lori Jarrett, CEO of VirtuosoWorks, Inc., the developers of NOTION. "NOTION is as much an instrument as it is software."
Introduced to the public in January, NOTION lends itself well to live performance as it features actual samples of orchestral instruments instead of relying on synthesis to recreate the desired sound of live orchestral players. High-quality samples and performances of the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded at prestigious Abbey Road Studios, are combined with a powerful playback engine and the NTEMPO™ real-time performance feature, providing the ability to augment live ensembles or a more flexible alternative to pre-recorded music.
When constraints on budget or space restrict the use of a full orchestra, NOTION can supplement live musicians to create a full, vibrant orchestral sound while NTEMPO technology puts playback control in the hands of a musician or conductor to direct the tempo of the performance, seamlessly blending the playback and live performers.
New York's Pan-Asian Repertory Theatre Company launches their current production of Cambodia Agonistes this month at the West End Theatre. Cambodia Agonistes deals with the effects of genocide under the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. The play runs from October 29 through November 20 at the West End Theater, 263 W. 86th Street, Manhattan. |
