NOTION FAQs
January 1, 2005 |
What is NOTION? NOTION is the innovative music notation and performance software from VirtuosoWorks, Inc., that lets musicians use their PCs to compose, playback and perform original music compositions with a realistic sound quality that is unprecedented in the industry.
Who can use it? If you can write or play music and operate a PC, you're ready to compose, playback and perform your original compositions or arrangements. Completely non-technical and easy to use, NOTION was designed to give musical artists of all genres and skill levels the means to hear their compositions as they create, and perform the finished work, regardless of financial limitations or venue restrictions.
What equipment do I need? All you need is a PC or Mac (Mac version scheduled for Fall 2005) and the NOTION software and you're ready to go. Connecting the computer to high-quality amplifier and speaker system enhances the output, but for all practical purposes, NOTION and a computer are all you need. What makes NOTION better than other notation software? First, it's the system's realistic, high-fidelity sound that is a result of a proprietary playback engine that offers the infinite possibilities of thousands of samples of individual notes and articulations from all orchestral instruments performed by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
Second, it's the system's performance capabilities. NOTION features the NTEMPO user-controlled tempo triggering system that lets you speed up, slow down, use rubato or even vamp. NTEMPO enables professional accompaniment of live voice, instruments or both, allowing artists of all styles to add original concert-quality orchestral instrumentation (and music that is currently in the public domain) to their performance.
Who developed NOTION? NOTION was developed by distinguished conductor, composer, musician and educator Dr. Jack Jarrett. No stranger to digital music technology, Jack is also the creator of MusicPrinter Plus, a ground-breaking notation and sequencer software released in 1988 that was used widely throughout the 90s.
Where can I buy it? NOTION will be available from music retailers of all kinds or online at www.notionmusic.com.
